ASA2020 Melbourne FAQs

The ASA2020 Melbourne Annual International Conference has been postponed to 16–18 October 2020 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. The Association is merging its exhibition with the RANZCR meeting which will be held at the same time.

This change has some flow-on effects which we will answer below:

Are you confident the conference will proceed in October?

It is impossible to categorically say the conference will proceed in October, but at the time of writing the conference is scheduled for seven months in the future, and we are happy to proceed.

Both RANZCR and the ASA hold the health and well-being of members, delegates, speakers and exhibitors as of utmost importance. We will ensure we are up to date with all Australian Government advice and will keep our members and delegates informed of any further changes.

Will the October conference be the same as the May one?

There are a few things that will be different at the October conference due availability of rooms at the venue. We know with certainty that we will not be able to host a gala dinner; we will present the Awards of Excellence, the new ASA Fellows and the Pru Pratten Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award at another point in the conference, we will also share the exhibition space with RANZCR.

While we will not be able to host a gala dinner, we will certainly find something special for those attending to do.

Has the program changed?

As much as possible, we are looking to replicate the program as per the May conference. We are currently contacting speakers to check their October availability.

How many CPD points will I get?

We will provide more information around the number of CPD points the conference can offer once we have more confirmation around the program and speakers.

In the interim we encourage you explore the asawebinars as an alternative CPD option.

What happens if I’ve registered for the original dates?

If you have already registered we will hold on to your payment and transfer it to the October conference. If you know however that you have a clash in October, we will offer you a full refund. To organise your full refund, please contact sonographers@theconferencecompany.com.

What will happen to my travel arrangements?

If you booked accommodation through the registration process, The Conference Company will be in contact shortly to confirm the full cancellation of any accommodation bookings made during the registration process. No penalties will apply to any of these bookings and no charges have been processed. An opportunity to rebook accommodation at the preferred conference rates will be provided at a later date.

If you have organised your own flights and/or accommodation for the conference we recommend that you contact the providers in the first instance for a transfer of dates.

If you have travel insurance you may wish to investigate that option as a secondary course of action.

I was going to exhibit at the May conference, what should I do now?

I provided a poster presentation for the conference, will that go ahead?

We are investigating this at the moment and looking for the best possible opportunity, but cannot provide a definitive answer until we know the configuration of the rooms.
